AFC Dunstable 0 Kings Langley 0
AFC Dunstable 0-0 Kings Langley
Tuesday 18th March 2025
An ultimately disappointing game but a decent performance in the ODs first 0-0 draw of the season
as we welcomed back our old Manager of 10 years Steve Heath – recently appointed at Kings
Langley.
AFC made the running from the very start of the game and created a multitude of chances
throughout the game but a mix of poor finishing, good defending and rank bad luck meant that we
were unable to convert any of them.
The story of the game is very much chances coming and going for the home team, so here goes –
The first real opportunity came with 20 minutes gone when Stan played an excellent ball in from the
right that Russell got his head to but he managed to head wide with the goal at his mercy. Two
minutes later Sean burst through the middle and lobbed the keeper but the ball went just over the
bar and landed on top of the net. Another two minutes later and a shot from distance from Sim that
went just wide. Another two minutes later and a ball in from Russell was met by Kyle Lynch but the
effort was blocked by the defender. Tali then had a header that ended up going well over – 30
minutes gone and somehow still 0-0.
Kings Langley then had a decent spell as the home side sat back a little and they had a couple of long
shots blocked in one passage of play – a goal from them at this stage would have been a travesty.
The half ended with a couple more decent chances for AFC – the first of which came following some
great play from Joel who played a superb ball in to Bruce but he couldn’t make a clean collection and
the ball squirmed away. Just as we went in to a couple of added minutes, Joel hit a shot from the
edge of the box that smacked off the bar – the visiting keeper later claimed a little touch – in which
case it was a goal saving moment for him.
The second half started in much the same fashion – Russell had an early shot palmed away for the
keeper and then Joel burst through but his shot went straight at the keeper. Another chance when
Russell had a close in shot that hit the keeper and span away for a corner. Sean’s go next as he raced
on to a through ball and his shot beat the keeper and hit the far post – he really should have scored
that one. There were a couple of further chances but my pen was running out of ink with the entries
I was having to write down!
So the story of the game was basically a multitude of missed opportunities for AFC. Kings Langley
may have had some chances but none in particular that I can recall – they were very relieved to go
home with a much needed point and fair play to them for a battling (if somewhat fortuitous)
performance.
Man of the match (as decided by the AFC committee) was Joel Anker.
