Flackwell Heath 6-0 AFC Dunstable

Flackwell Heath 6-0 AFC Dunstable

10th AUGUST 2024

AFC’s first ever meeting with Flackwell Heath. As always, we started this game with high hopes, but unfortunately things did not go our way. A lovely day for football saw AFC run out in a new style kit With white sleeves on the shirts – a new twist for the club.

A lively start for AFC, but things started to go wrong as early as the 7th minute when Flackwell Heath took the lead with a fine shot across Josh from their striker Wiktor Makowski. Bad went to worse when the same player tapped home in the 23rd minute. Michael Harding added a 3rd on 31 with another tap in. Flackwell Heath were tearing AFC apart and must have thought all their Christmases had come early and playing at this step is an absolute doddle!

Not many positives from the first half – very little to report other than two pretty tame shots from Kyle Brooks and Hayden Beadle straight at their keeper and a nice cross in to the box from Kyle that Tom Blennerhassett headed wide. We also picked up two bookings.

Two changes were made at half time followed by two more with an hour of the game gone but unfortunately the second half saw more of the same. Within 7 minutes, Michael Harding made it 4-0 with a towering header from a corner followed by a goal on 86 from Eddie Lee – another header, this time from a long throw inadvertently headed on by our defender - and a minute in to injury time Matthew Ayres completed a miserable afternoon for AFC scoring directly from a well struck free kick giving Josh no chance as the ball sailed in to the top corner.

Not one shot on target from AFC in the second half.

Not much more to say other than we took a good beating on the day – certainly not how we envisaged the first game going but fair play to Flackwell Heath – they took full advantage of our poor performance and deservedly ran out very comfortable winners.
