AFC Dunstable 0 Thame United 0
AFC Dunstable 0-0 Thame United
Tuesday 25th March 2025
Just like London buses, along comes another 0-0 draw exactly a week after reporting our first one of
the season. Much like the one last week, this was another decent game with plenty of chances for
both teams.
Thame arrived at Creasey Park in the last play off place and were desperate for the points to
maintain their push – unsurprisingly they started the brighter and attacked from the off creating a
couple of good chances – one clearance off the line early on indicative of their intention. AFC came
back in to game and started to create chances of their own but unfortunately could not convert any
of them. Sean, Charlie and George all saw efforts hit just wide in a 12 minute spell. With 33 on the
clock we should have taken the lead but an excellent header from Sean was cleared off the line by a
Thame defender. The game got a bit scrappy with Thame’s eagerness to win the ball becoming
desperate at times and two of their players picked up bookings for over zealous tackles. The half
ended with another AFC shot being hit just past the post – this time by Ollie.
The second half started with Thame once again getting the upper hand. An early speculative cross in
from the right saw the ball bounce off the top of the crossbar and away to safety. Thame continued
to attack and had a decent chance just before the hour but a great last ditch block by Stan denied
them a goal, quickly followed up by a shot just over the bar and another shot blocked by Kyle Brooks
– the visitors definitely on top at this stage.
The ODs were still in the game and following some impressive build up play on 68 minutes, the ball
was played in to the box and a bout of pinball followed but unfortunately the ball would not drop for
anyone to get a clear shot off. The chances continued to be created and missed at both ends –
Thame had a decent shot well saved by Sam on 75 and Bruce had another shot blocked on 83.
Thame then had a header cleared off the line with 3 minutes to go before Tali had a bit of a wild shot
that flew well over the crossbar.
Into 4 minutes of added on time and Thame had a great chance from a breakaway but Sam read it
well and made a superb sliding save to the thwart the effort. Just before the end we won a free kick
on the edge of the box – it was well hit but unfortunately it struck the wall and the final whistle
sounded shortly after that.
Man of the match (as decided by the AFC committee) was Kyle Lynch.
