AFC Dunstable 5 Stotfold 0

AFC Dunstable 5-0 Stotfold FC

10th December 2024

A very impressive team performance on a cold but thankfully dry evening saw us through to the

semi-final of the Beds Senior Cup – we’re on our way to Wembley!!

The first half was a very even affair with very few real goal chances for either side – Matt made a

couple of very good saves early in the game (the first one on 2 minutes was flagged offside, but Matt

was not to know that at the time). AFC also had a couple of efforts – notably a Charlie shot that was

well saved and a Kyle Brooks shot that he snatched at with a wild shot that went high and wide. Too

many wayward passes from AFC in midfield were making for a frustrating first half hour or so.

The deadlock was broken with a superb solo goal from Charlie on 39 minutes. He set off on a run

from midfield and beat a couple of defenders before letting go a tremendous low shot beating the

keeper at his near post – an excellent goal to put us 1 up at half time.

The second half was pretty much completely dominated by the home side – Stotfold only had one

half effort to speak of (Stan clearing the ball off the line following a free kick punted in to the area on

72 minutes), but otherwise it was all AFC.

The first effort of note was a Tommy shot on 52 – the ball was played in to him and he hit the ball at

the goal only for the keeper to push the ball away for a corner. Ten minutes later Rico had a lovely

first time shot well saved by the keeper following a cut back from Sean. Just after that Russell

entered the field and from the resulting corner there was a bit of pinball before the ball fell at

Russell’s feet and he walloped the ball home with his first touch of the game to double our lead.

Stotfold were really up against it with AFC taking the game to them and it was no surprise when AFC

scored again on 68 minutes. Russell cut the ball back to Keon in the area who was tripped by a

defender – the resulting penalty was well dispatched by Kyle Brooks low to the keepers left. AFC

were not finished there – a blistering shot from the edge of the box by Rico on 74 minutes flew past

the keeper to make it 4-0.

Levi Nicholson came on as sub to make his debut and was unlucky not to add to the score with 5

minutes left – his sharp shot going just the wrong side of the post. Tali completed the scoring 2

minutes in to added time following a nice through ball from Russell, Tali tussled with the centre half

and span away with the ball and hit a low shot past the keeper. 5-0 – a very good performance from

the whole team.

MOM voted by the committee was Shawn Joseph
