Kidlington 1-2 AFC Dunstable

Kidlington 1-2 AFC Dunstable

2nd October 2024

Kidlington started the evening quick, with Lewis Middleton having the license to deliver two balls into the AFC Dunstable box, with one arriving at John Dennis’ feet but he scuffed his shot. Another similar chance happened 6 minutes later with Alex Costa receiving the ball on the edge of the AFC Dunstable box, but he couldn’t get the best connection with the ball.

The home side were definitely in the ascendency and Sam Jenkins and Lewis Middleton both had shots saved by Seb Stacey in the AFC Dunstable net. Another volley from Alex Costa just went wide of the post too.

However, in the 19th minute, against the run of play, Sean Duodu ran through the Kidlington defence and slotted the ball past Charlie Barnett in to the net to give AFC a 1-0 lead. Tommy H hit the bar from a free kick on 25 with a strike from outside the box, that Charlie Barnett tipped over the bar. Another fine chance fell to Sean 7 minutes later with the home keeper getting down well to push his shot wide for a corner.

The Fourth Official added 2 minutes and at the end of that period, Fraser Allen chased down Seb Stacey and his clearance smashed off Fraser Allen which resulted in the ball just going wide of the goal and out for a goal kick.

Kidlington couldn’t have asked for a better second half start as a cross from Cheyce Grant would be flapped at by Seb Stacey, with the ball landing at the feet of John Dennis who converted to bring the scores level. In the 68th minute, AFC Dunstable countered quickly and had a four on one with Sean Duodu running through at Charlie Barnett. The Kidlington keeper stuck a leg out and denied him of a second.

Chances came and went for both sides as the game turned in to a battle mostly in midfield.

However, in the 85th minute, a brilliant run from Max Rosner would split open the Kidlington defence. Max was able to nick the ball on to Bruce Ovbiye, and he curled the ball superbly into the Kidlington net – a goal fit to win any football match.

The Fourth Official then indicated 5 minutes of added time, and at the end of that period; Hamza Al Jabari was quite rightly sent off as he dragged Sean Duodu down, denying him an open goal. As soon as the resulting free kick was taken the referee blew the whistle and AFC took the points home.
