Kings Langley 1 AFC Dunstable 1

Kings Langley 1-1 AFC Dunstable

9 th November 2024

AFC started the match much the better team and created a couple of early half chances in the first

10 minutes. The first one of note came on 13 minutes with Tommy hitting a free kick over the bar. It

was not until the 23 rd minute that Seb made his first meaningful touch with a relatively comfortable

save.

We deservedly took the lead with 28 on the clock with a very nice headed effort from Kyle Lynch –

1-0 AFC.

The home side came in to the game following the goal – a couple of efforts from them deserve a

mention – a shot on 39 minutes that Seb got down low to at his near post and a breakaway 5

minutes later saw the move finish with a shot from the KL number 9 but it was well over the bar.

Another gilt edged chance for KL as we went in to added time was (again!) put over the top.

AFC were marginally the better side in the first half but Kings Langley definitely finished stronger and

were probably a bit disappointed to go in to the break one down.

Six minutes in to the second half, Kings Langley had a golden opportunity to equalise when a header

from a corner bounced off the crossbar. The ball was cleared but only to the edge of the box and a

free kick was given away. A good hit from the free kick was well saved by Seb and the ball was

quickly dispatched to put AFC on the attack but Sean unfortunately ended up shooting wide of the

goal. Kwad had another chance pretty soon after but (again!!) shot over the bar. Ollie had a chance

on 59 with a great run through from midfield but finished with a rather wild effort.

With an hour on the clock, the home side got their equaliser. A speculative high ball in to the area

eventually dropped to Bradley Smith and his shot squeezed under Seb. 1-1. Kings Langley were

definitely on top now and soon followed up with a good effort that (surprise, surprise) went over the

bar.

AFC got back in the game and a well struck shot from Sean went straight at the home keeper with 71

gone. A little while later, a great ball over the top went to Ollie who played the ball to Bruce but the

keeper made a sharp save to push the ball out for a corner. As the corner came in there was a bit of

pinball in the box but we couldn’t get a clean shot off – AFC clearly on top at this stage, but KL still

had another decent effort with 3 minutes left which (guess what?) went sailing over the bar.

As we went in to an unknown period of injury time, Nikki had to come on to the field to treat a

stricken Charlie but thankfully he was not as badly injured as it first appeared – perhaps he was

allowing his team-mates a bit of a breather? One more save from Seb was required as he plucked

the ball from under the crossbar. The final effort of the game was a shot from Tali that the keeper

pushed out to Ollie but his shot went over the bar.

Final score 1-1 – both teams probably relieved to hear the whistle go and take a point apiece.

Man of the match as voted by the committee went to Kyle Lynch.

Team line up (subs in brackets); Seb Stacey, Bruce Ovbiye-Nsang, Stan Georgiou, Archie Long-
