Leighton Town 1 AFC Dunstable 0
Leighton Town 1-0 AFC Dunstable
Saturday 8th March 2025
A battle of a game in front of Leightons biggest attendance of the season saw AFC succumb to a late
goal from one of our old players – disappointing but Leighton were the better team on the day.
Not very much to report from the first half hour or so other than a Leighton shot from a free kick
that was well hit but comfortably dealt with by Sam and Kwad having to be replaced when he was
injured with barely 20 minutes gone. Leighton slowly but surely took control of the game and put us
under pressure as the half wore on. Leighton created a number of chances but decent defending and
fine goalkeeping kept them at bay. 0-0 at half time.
The second half started much the same as the first half had ended – pressure from Leighton, but AFC
came in to game more and started to push forward a bit more and created a few half chances. Of
particular note were a shot from Tali on 67 minutes that the keeper just managed to get down to
and push wide and a Sean lob 11 minutes later that looked as though it was going in from our angle
but it went just past the post. We also hit the woodwork on two occasions – a mis-hit cross from
Stan that bounced off the top of the bar and then a decent effort from Harry who ran on to a
through ball that he scooped over the keeper but again it bounced off the top of the bar.
Leighton got the winner with 4 minutes to go following some good play in midfield – the ball ending
up with Charlie Pattison who struck the ball low and hard in to the corner of the net. None of the
“not celebrating against your old team” for Charlie – he milked the acclaim of the relieved crowd and
fair play to him for doing so.
Man of the match (as decided by the AFC committee) was Kyle Brooks but a special mention for Sam
in goal.
