North Leigh 0 AFC Dunstable 2
North Leigh 0-2 AFC Dunstable
Tuesday 4 th March 2025
A long old 50 mile schlep over to central Oxfordshire on a cold but pleasant March evening was
made to be worth it with the OD’s deservedly bringing home the points in what was a relatively
comfortable win.
We started extremely brightly and should have been 3 up in the opening half hour. As it was, the
two goals we did score in that period were enough. We took the lead early when Bruce was clearly
bundled over for a penalty with 8 minutes on the clock – the defender could and should have let the
ball and player run as the ball was going across the box following a mis-hit shot but he inexplicably
took Bruce out. Rico stepped up and smashed the ball home with good technique.
Bruce should have got himself on the scoresheet ten minutes later following a nice flowing move but
although he beat the onrushing goalkeeper, his shot clipped the post and away to safety. With just
over half an hour gone, we did double our lead with a fine header from Abel – 2-0 to AFC at half
time.
There were more chances for the OD’s in the second half but in spite of the best efforts of the team,
we could not add any further goals. Can’t really recall any clear chances for North Leigh in either
period of the game – our defence and keeper were not put under any real pressure but what they
had to do they did extremely well.
A good all round team display and some very good individual performances – several players were
discussed as potential man of the match – George, Rico and Ben in particular but the committee
decided on Joel Anker to take the award.
Team line up ; Matthew Bonsu, George Joyce, Rico Greco, Simone Troso, Ben Lynch, Shawn Joseph,
Bruce Ovbiye-Nsang, Charlie Davis, Russell Berko, Joel Anker, Abel Damoah-Kyeremeh.
Subs; Sean Duodu, Archie Long Nicholls, Kyle Brooks, Tali Jallow – all subs were used in the second
half but no details of who they replaced or at what time – sorry about that!!
